SKILLED MACHINIST (MACHINIST 3)
SUMMARY
A Skilled Machinist operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to manufacture metallic and nonmetallic parts. An ideal candidate will possess manual dexterity and an eye for detail. They must also have knowledge of mathematics and mechanics as well as respect for safety precautions.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks e.g., lathes, drills, grinders
- Prep and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
- Change “standard” cutting tools and reset the machine(s) to the proper size
- Strong knowledge of blueprints, mechanical process drawings, and charts
- Independently set up machines and equipment required to manufacture parts
- Monitor the production process, intervening when issues or changes occur
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues to develop a solution
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out–of–tolerance conditions
- Use precision tools to take precise measurements (e.g., micrometers, indicators, gauges)
- Inspect the finished part for flaws or defects
- Flexible and willing to take on new tasks, team player with a can-do attitude
- High level of attention to detail and follow through
- Knowledge of mathematics with analytical abilities
- Understand health and safety regulations
- Maintain, relate, and promote a positive work environment
- Ability to work independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function
- May provide training to lower-level Machinists (Machinists 1 and 2)
- Other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations
- The employee may be required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time; climb or balance; kneel or crouch; reach with hands and arms, use fingers to handle/feel objects, tools, or controls; and lift or move to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to heat and cold depending on weather conditions
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close/distance, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- The noise level is usually moderate to loud
- Required to have sufficient hand tools
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification from a technical school a plus
- Experience using one or more of the following machines Okuma Lathes with Fanuc controls, Mazak Lathes with Mazatrol controls, OKK Drilling & Milling, Okuma drills, CNC Shapers & Hobs
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience
