Avon Machining combines more than 40 years of machining expertise with 17 in-house, large diameter CNC lathes ranging from 650-1550 mm. Avon’s team of experts use a Mazak Integrex 1550—one of only two in the state of Michigan—to produce quality large diameter parts. Under CNC operation, the 5-axis capabilities of the Mazak include turning, drilling, milling, and hobbing with one-pass efficiency. Its machining capacity accommodates components up to 62 inches in diameter and Z-stroke cut length of 54 inches.
Avon also houses the only Mazak Integrex 1060 with Ram Tech found in North America. This machine features a unique sub-spindle ram which accommodates internal milling and drilling work within larger castings. This capacity allows us to machine complex internal shapes or features that were not possible before and are not available through our competitors.

- We overcame a speed-to-market challenge in which we had to produce two large diameter gears with extremely complex design features within a quick turnaround time. Our expertise and equipment was able to produce the required parts within 48 hours, saving our client three days of costly downtime.
- We met the tight production time frame of a new product launch, which required a highly complex idler gear as one of its components. Using our high-end equipment and engineering expertise, our team produced a prototype within two months and met the six-month production goal seven days earlier than expected while shaving 30% off the expected production cost.
Along with large diameter CNC turning, our capabilities include deep-hole boring on ram, which produces tighter internal tolerances that are especially critical in applications with thinner walls. Avon’s experts can also perform hard turning while achieving similar results to grinding. These efficiency improvements provide significant cost savings for our customers as well.
